Sam Rogers, Candidate
Born and reared in Monticello, Utah, I participated and lettered in three sports. I attended USU on a wrestling scholarship, where I studied Business and Marketing. My work experience is in business management where, for 25 plus years, I managed businesses for LLP’s and sole proprietorships, mostly in the carwash industry. I have worked in management for two national companies; Gallenkamp Shoes and Sherwin-Williams. I received my Master of Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix in 2007 and began teaching Business and Marketing that fall at Riverton High School. Teaching is the greatest “job” I have ever attempted. While at Riverton, I have coached football and wrestling, been DECA Assistant Advisor and am currently DECA Advisor. I served on the MEG board from the summer of 2008, serving as president-elect from 2011-2013 and as president from 2013, until spring 2016. I have served on the UACTE board, as both president-elect and president of the Marketing Division. If elected, I will continue to work tirelessly for the benefit and support of teachers and students in CTE. Thank you all for your time and effort in the service of your students.

Steven Strong, Candidate
I am honored to be running for President of UACTE. I am a believer in CTE. I benefitting from CTE classes and CTSOs when I was a student in high school. And I am still benefitting from it today. I am currently in my seventh year of teaching. My first three years were spent teaching marketing classes at Bingham High School in the Jordan School District. Over the last four years I have taught Computer Technology, College and Career Awareness, and Keyboarding at Canyon View Jr. High in Alpine School District. Before teaching, I spent ten years in industry. I am grateful to have been part of the private and public sector. This gives me a unique perspective of the skills need for student success. As president I hope to continue the excellence that is UACTE and influence our organization in a positive way.

New Computer Science Framework
This past year ACM, CSTA, Code.org, CIC, and NMSI are joined forces with more than 100 advisors within the computing community (higher ed faculty, researchers, and K-12 teachers), several states and large school districts, technology companies, and other organizations to steer a process to build a framework to help answer these questions. The framework is designed to  identify key K-12 computer science concepts and practices we expect students exiting grades 2, 5, 8, and 12 to know. States and school districts can use the framework to create their own frameworks, guidance, and standards. Underpinning this effort is our belief that computer science provides foundational learning benefiting every child. Computer science gives students a set of essential knowledge and skills important for students’ learning and for their future careers and interests. https://k12cs.org/

Jones Loflin has made it his life’s work to deliver powerful ideas and practical solutions to individuals around the world so they can achieve more of what is most important to them. In his 22 years as a speaker and trainer he has helped countless people regain confidence in their ability to achieve greater success in work and life.

Jones’ innovative yet practical solutions have attracted the attention of organizations around the world. His client list includes Federal Express, Wal-Mart, Choice Hotels, Volvo Cars, Bridgestone, American Farm Bureau and State Farm as well as the United States Navy and Air Force.

Jones is no stranger to Utah CTE. Since 1996 he has spoken at numerous CTE student conferences, and has trained several groups of CTE state officers. Jones is also a former CTE instructor.

Looking for ways to expand the reach of his message, Jones chose to become an author. Juggling Elephants is a witty and profound parable about one man’s search for solutions for the struggle of too much do. The book is available in the US and over 14 countries. He is also the author of Getting The Blue Ribbon, a unique story offering simple strategies to get better results. Getting to It is considered a field guide to accomplishing what is most important. His newest book, Always Growing, will be released in February, and offers strategies to improve as a leader whether you have been leading for two days or two decades.

Jones believes the key to success is being passionate about certain things in life, including family, spiritual beliefs, career and relationships.

When not working with some amazing individuals and organizations seeking better results, Jones resides in North Carolina with his wonderful wife Lisa and their two perfect daughters.
